For our tenth edition of BlueSkyFriday Favourites, we’re excited to feature member Hugo Burnand – not only for his exceptional talent and iconic portfolio, but for his enduring curiosity, humour and generosity in sharing what happens behind the lens.
Hugo Burnand is a British portrait photographer celebrated for capturing the British royal family and high-profile figures. He discovered a passion for photography as a child, winning his first contest at Cheam School and later studying at Harrow. He began his professional career at 27 and spent over two decades as Tatler’s “Bystander” photographer, creating memorable portraits of Margaret Thatcher, John F. Kennedy Jr., Michael Jackson and many more. Burnand has held a Royal Warrant since 2010 and served as the official photographer for several major royal events, including the weddings of Prince Charles and Camilla, Prince William and Catherine and the coronation of King Charles III.
Double Exposure, the podcast he has launched with his friend, photographer Cambridge Jones, takes you inside their extraordinary world of royal and celebrity photography. Together, Hugo and Cambridge have captured everything from royal weddings to Hollywood legends, prime ministers and rock stars. Now, for the first time, they’ve teamed up to launch this podcast, where they share some of their all-time favourite stories, unforgettable moments and personal insights from behind the lens.
Ever wondered what it’s like to photograph a king? Or what happens when an A-lister storms off set? Is anyone truly ‘unphotogenic’? And how could a humble rubber band help create the perfect portrait? Join two of Britain’s most experienced photographers on Double Exposure as they discuss art, chaos and magic.
