Hugo Burnand and Cambridge Jones share what they're loving right now, from Hugo’s go-to summer recipe, a refreshing homemade gazpacho, to Cambridge’s favourite book, Money by Martin Amis.
Hugo: My current favourite recipe is very seasonal, and well suited to our current spate of heatwaves: homemade Gazpacho. My cousin made it for me two years ago, and it is now a regular in my house too. There are many ways to make a good gazpacho, but Nigel Slater’s recipe is, in my cousin’s and my opinion, the best, the simplest, the easiest and also it is authentic to the origins of Gazpacho - a peasants' simple recipe - simplicity is best! Here is the recipe on BBC food.
Top Tip: Add crunchy salt and coarsely ground black pepper with a generous drizzle of good olive oil to the soup once it is in each individual bowl - and maybe some toasted sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds too.
Cambridge: Money by Martin Amis is probably my favourite book. It sort of gets under the skin of being male. And not necessarily in a good way. Buts its compulsive. In fact the more I think about it the more horrific it is. But Amis was such a prodigiously talented writer that even when portraying deeply flawed unpleasant people he can draw you in. Or suck you up and spit you out. It’s one of those books that I kind of hope my female friends don’t pick up.
Top Tip: Read Catcher In The Rye instead!
